Sue Sherman

We are sad to inform you that former County President, Sue Sherman passed away on Friday.

Sue was involved in the early days of the Mid Wales Ladies Golfing Association, which became the Mid Wales County Golf Association that we have today. She was a great golf enthusiast, participating and organising both at club and county level. A keen match player, she played for the county in its early days, becoming its second captain in 1981. In 1989, Sue became President of the County and was highly respected and admired for her calm demeanour and willingness to help and advise. Later, she was a County selector for many years and was also a course assessor for our area.

Even though not playing much golf in recent years Sue maintained an interest in Aberystwyth Golf Club, and the County, and was often seen helping out at events. She liked to keep in touch with what was happening in the County and was always pleased to see us and welcome us when we met over the years. This quote from one of our Borth Ladies encapsulates the person that was Sue Sherman the golfer, "Sue was lovely to play golf with, she was knowledgeable, competitive ( in a very gentle way) and lots of fun. A great lady."

Sue was a member at Aberystwyth Golf Club, being Ladies' Captain for the first time in 1968. She was also a member at Borth for some years.

Sue presented the prizes at the Spring Medal competition held last May at Aberystwyth and is seen here on the far right.
